History
The granite on Pikes Peak dates to pre-Columbian times when Castle Rock was a rain forest! Several tribes, explorers, fur traders, gold miners and then pioneers have flocked to the area. The county is named after Stephen A. Douglas; the county seat became Castle Rock, located about halfway between Denver and Colorado Springs on I-25.
Recreation
Pike National Forest offers camping, fishing, backpacking and some hunting.
